EA (NASDAQ: EA) has announced its FY17 Q1 financials, for the 3 months ending 30 June 2016.
Total GAAP revenues were $1.3 billion, up 6% compared to 12 months ago.
Net income was $440 million, down 0.5%.
Looking at EA Mobile, GAAP revenues were a record $165 million.
This is up 14% year-on-year and up 9% compared to the previous record quarter.
Interestingly, CEO Andrew Wilson told analysts that EA Mobile spends around $100 million a year on marketing and UA.
Bigger quarter
As seen previously, there are two main reasons for this performance.
EA didn't break out hard numbers but said that Madden NFL Mobile (currently in its off season) had 25% more monthly active players in Q1.
Similarly, it reported that players of its #1 game Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes players averaged nearly 2.5 hours of gameplay per day in Q1.
Indeed, looking at the numbers from App Annie, it's clear to see - as we've previously reported - Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes continues to be a top grossing success in all the key western markets.
And given recent updates (see below), that's something which seems likely to continue.
