Analysts forecast Q2 '11 sales of 17 million iPhones and 7 million iPads

Apple will reveal its actual performance in Q2 2011 on April 20, but analysts are eager to give their views ahead of time.

According to RBC Capital Market analyst Mike Abramsky, Apple's sales figures won't disappoint, with the firm likely to exceed expectations across the three month period.

Million milestones

Representing a record figure, Abramsky believes iPhone sales for the quarter will come in at the 17 million mark.

That would be up from the previous quarter which included the Christmas season when Apple sold 16.2 million iPhones.

Abramsky is also predicting strong performances from both versions of iPad.

His numbers suggest Apple sold somewhere between 2 to 3 million iPad 2s across the quarter - the tablet having been on sale for less than a month.

Adjusting estimates

Combined with sales of its predecessor, Abramsky pins total iPad sales for Q2 2011 at 7 million - down a touch from Q1 2011's total of 7.3 million.

Nonetheless, Abramsky has gone on to adjust his year end estimates, following an RBC consumer survey that suggested 28 percent of consumers plan to buy an iPad 2.

His iPad projections for 2011 are up from 25 million to 31 million, with Apple's revenue up 57 percent year-on-year to $102 billion as a result.
